Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Remote collects, how we use and share it, how we protect it, and the rights and choices available to you.
1.Who We Are and Scope of this Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Remote ("Remote," "we," "us" or "our") collects, uses, discloses and protects personal information when you visit remote-job.us, take our skills assessment, request access, create an account or otherwise use our websites, emails and related services (together, the "Service").
Remote is responsible for the personal information collected through the Service and acts as its controller, except where an Employer receives your information when you apply to a Listing, in which case that Employer is responsible for its own use of it.
This Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service. It does not apply to the websites, platforms or practices of Employers or other third parties, which are governed by their own privacy policies.
2.Information We Collect
Information you provide to us:
- Identity and contact information, such as your name, email address, phone number and location.
- Account credentials. Passwords are stored only in a secure, hashed form and are never visible to us.
- Profile and career information, such as your job preferences, languages, skills, work experience, education, and the resumes you create or upload.
- Application information, including your responses to screening questions, cover notes and the materials you submit to Listings.
- Assessment submissions, which may include a voice recording, a screenshot of an internet speed test, typing-test results, and the scores and notes our team records when reviewing them.
- Payment information, such as your chosen payment method, transaction references and the proof of payment you upload. We do not collect or store full card or bank account numbers.
- Communications, including support requests, messages sent through our contact form, and feedback or reports you send us.
If you provide information about other people, such as references or former managers named in a resume, you are responsible for ensuring you have the right to share it with us.
Information we collect automatically:
- Usage information, such as the Listings you view, save, dismiss or apply to, the features you use, and the dates and times of your activity.
- Device and technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system and general location derived from your IP address.
- Information collected through cookies, local storage and similar technologies, as described in the Cookies and Similar Technologies section below.
Information from third parties:
- Emails sent by Employers to your personal application address, including their content and attachments.
- Updates from Employers about the status of applications submitted through the Service.
- Security and fraud-prevention signals from service providers that help us protect our forms and sign-in.
3.How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Providing the Service: creating and managing your account, verifying payments, managing your credits, and showing you Listings that match your profile and location. We use the country you tell us, or the general location derived from your IP address, to show which Listings are open to you and the prices, payment methods and content that apply in your country.
- Supporting your applications: preparing tailored resumes, cover letters and screening answers on request, submitting applications to Remote Listings, and tracking application progress.
- Managing Employer correspondence: receiving emails sent to your application address, updating your application pipeline and forwarding those emails to you.
- Evaluating assessments: reviewing and scoring your assessment and informing you of the result and of opportunities that may suit you.
- Communicating with you: sending access codes, receipts, credit confirmations, application updates, job alerts and responses to your enquiries.
- Safety and security: detecting, investigating and preventing fraud, spam, abuse, security incidents and violations of our Terms of Service.
- Improving the Service: understanding how the Service is used, diagnosing technical issues and developing new features.
- Legal compliance: complying with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes and enforceable governmental requests, and establishing, exercising or defending legal claims.
4.Legal Bases for Processing
We process personal information in accordance with applicable data-protection laws, including Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 151 of 2020). Depending on the context, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract, where processing is necessary to provide the Service you have requested.
- Consent, for example where you choose to submit an assessment or opt in to optional emails. You may withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting processing carried out before the withdrawal.
- Legitimate interests, such as keeping the Service secure, preventing fraud and improving our offering, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Legal obligations, where we must process information to comply with the law.
5.How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following circumstances:
- With Employers, when you apply to a Remote Listing. We share your profile, resume, application responses and related information with the Employer for that Listing. When you apply on an Employer's own website, you share your information with them directly.
- With service providers that process information on our behalf, such as providers of cloud hosting and data storage, email delivery, artificial-intelligence text generation, and security and bot protection. These providers may use your information only to perform services for us and are required to protect it.
- For legal reasons, where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with the law or legal process, to enforce our Terms of Service, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Remote, our users or others.
- In connection with a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation or sale of all or part of our business, subject to this Policy continuing to protect your information.
- With your consent or at your direction.
6.Automated Processing and Artificial Intelligence
Some features use automated tools, including artificial intelligence, to match you with Listings and to draft application materials. When you ask us to prepare materials, we provide the relevant Listing and only the parts of your profile needed for that task to our AI service provider.
Automated tools assist our team but do not make final decisions about you. Assessment results and the progress of applications to Remote Listings are reviewed by people.
7.Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies, local storage and similar technologies that are necessary to operate the Service, for example to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, resume an assessment in progress and protect our forms against automated abuse. We do not use advertising cookies or allow third parties to track you across other websites for advertising purposes.
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" setting. Because there is no common industry standard for responding to these signals, the Service does not currently respond to them. As we do not track you across third-party websites, this does not change how your information is handled.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. If you block or delete them, some parts of the Service, such as signing in, may not work properly.
8.International Data Transfers
We and our service providers may store and process your information in countries other than Egypt, including countries whose data-protection laws may differ from those in your country. Where we transfer personal information internationally, we take appropriate steps to ensure it receives a level of protection consistent with this Policy and applicable law.
9.Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we delete your profile, resumes, saved jobs, applications, notifications and support requests within a reasonable period.
We may retain certain information for longer where reasonably necessary to comply with legal, tax or accounting obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud or enforce our agreements, for example payment records. Assessment submissions from people without an account are kept for as long as needed to review them and follow up on suitable opportunities, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
10.Data Security
We use administrative, technical and organisational measures designed to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or alteration. These include encryption in transit, hashed passwords, protection against automated sign-up and repeated sign-in attempts, and restricting access to administrative tools to authorised personnel.
If we become aware of a security incident that affects your personal information, we will take steps to contain it and will notify you and the relevant authorities where required by applicable law.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and never share your password or sign-in codes with anyone, including anyone claiming to represent Remote.
11.Your Rights and Choices
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- Access and portability: request a copy of your personal information. Members can download their data at any time from Settings.
- Correction: update inaccurate or incomplete information. You can edit most profile and resume details yourself.
- Deletion: request deletion of your personal information. Members can delete their account and data from Settings at any time.
- Objection and restriction: object to, or ask us to restrict, certain processing of your information.
- Withdrawal of consent: withdraw consent where we rely on it, without affecting processing that took place before withdrawal.
- Communication preferences: turn job alerts and other optional emails on or off in Settings. We will still send essential messages about your account, payments and applications.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us through our contact page. We may need to verify your identity before responding. If you believe we have not handled your information lawfully, you may also lodge a complaint with the competent data-protection authority.
12.Children's Privacy
The Service is intended only for individuals aged eighteen (18) or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
13.Third-Party Websites
The Service contains links to Employer websites, job platforms and other third-party services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with any personal information.
14.Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and notify Members in the Service or by email. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically.
15.Contact Us
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or our handling of your personal information, please contact us through our contact page.
